Double Cleanse Progression
Matchamelt begins breaking down lipid-based impurities and sunscreen. The skin feels instantly softer as the first layer of environmental "film" is removed without irritation.
The BHA Gel Cleanser starts penetrating the pore lining. You may notice micro-comedones becoming more textured as the Salicylic Acid works to dissolve sebum plugs from the inside out.
The synergy of the double cleanse stabilizes oil production. Congestion is visibly reduced, and the anti-inflammatory properties of Matcha help soothe the redness associated with active purging.
Pores appear smaller and the skin surface is free from most comedones. Light reflection is improved because the dermal "floor" is finally clean, balanced, and hydrated.
The Products
The Double Cleanse Routine is the single most impactful change you can make to your skincare protocol. MatchaMelt dissolves what water cannot touch. The BHA Gel Cleanser removes what MatchaMelt lifts. Together they deliver a genuinely clean skin surface — the prerequisite for every active that follows.
MatchaMelt
MCT Oil (45%), Grapeseed Oil (10%), Camellia Sinensis Extract (3%). Balm-to-milk formula that emulsifies SPF, waterproof makeup, and lipid-based pollutants that a water-based cleanser cannot break down.

BHA Gel Cleanser
Salicylic Acid (1%), Panthenol (0.5%), Sulfate-Free. Lipid-soluble BHA penetrates the pore lining to dissolve sebum plugs and clear active congestion without stripping the acid mantle.

MatchaMelt is always first. The BHA Gel Cleanser always follows. On GlycoGommage days, start with GlycoGommage instead of MatchaMelt, then proceed to BHA Gel Cleanser as normal.
Once weekly first step, replacing MatchaMelt on that day only. Apply to dry skin, massage, rinse, then continue to BHA Gel Cleanser.
Apply to dry skin. Massage in circular motions until all SPF and makeup emulsifies into a milky texture, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Apply to damp skin after MatchaMelt. Lather gently, focus on congested areas, and rinse. Salicylic Acid needs approximately 30 seconds of contact time to penetrate the pore lining effectively.
Toner step after cleansing. Apply if using as part of a wider pigmentation or brightening protocol.
Serum step. Apply after toner if using as part of a wider brightening protocol.
Serum step. Apply after all water-based actives before the emulsion layer.
Highly recommended after cleansing. The double cleanse creates optimal pore-clear conditions for the micro-emulsion to penetrate the follicular lining at full efficacy.
Highly recommended as your final step. Seals the clean, decongested barrier after the double cleanse to prevent overnight moisture loss.
Always use MatchaMelt on dry skin. Water deactivates oil-based emulsifiers before they can bind to lipid-based impurities.
Why These Two Ingredients Work Together
Oil-based and water-based cleansers are not interchangeable. They target entirely different categories of skin debris and pore congestion. Using only one type means leaving behind exactly what the other type removes — which is why most single-step cleansing routines produce incomplete results regardless of how good the cleanser is.
SPF, waterproof makeup, sebum, and lipid-based pollution are hydrophobic — they are chemically resistant to water and to most water-based surfactants. MatchaMelt's MCT Oil and Grapeseed Oil base dissolves these substances through the like-dissolves-like principle, emulsifying them into a milky texture that rinses cleanly away. This leaves the pore entrance accessible. The BHA Gel Cleanser then delivers Salicylic Acid — a lipid-soluble beta-hydroxy acid — directly into the pore lining where sebaceous plugs and comedones accumulate. Salicylic Acid is one of the only topical actives capable of penetrating the lipid-rich environment of the pore itself, which is why it remains the clinical standard for comedolytic cleansing after decades of alternatives.
The most common objection to double cleansing is that it over-strips the skin. The opposite is true when the cleansers are formulated correctly. MatchaMelt is specifically non-comedogenic and non-stripping — Camellia Sinensis extract provides antioxidant activity during the cleanse itself, and the balm-to-milk formula rinses completely without leaving a residue. The BHA Gel Cleanser uses a sulfate-free surfactant system paired with Panthenol specifically to maintain barrier integrity during the active cleanse. The pH of both formulas is calibrated to preserve the acid mantle rather than disrupt it.
Every active applied after cleansing — serums, emulsions, moisturisers — depends on an unobstructed path to the skin surface to reach its target depth. Residual SPF or sebum left by a single-step cleanse physically blocks this pathway. Studies on Salicylic Acid cleansers consistently show that sustained use produces improvements not just in pore appearance and active acne but in overall skin texture, which is driven by the improved absorption of subsequent actives rather than the BHA alone.
